Myself and DH have been ttc for just over 3 years now. I’ve had 4 ectopics, three on left on one on right tube. My last was April 2016 which resulted in the removal of my left tube. The doctors have told me on each laparoscopy that things look good in there and they don’t know why the ectopics keep happening. Anyway, the reason I’m posting is to find out the real life logistics of IVF. We had an initial consultation last June and I had an AMH blood test done. The results told me I have an AMH of 30.99, I’m 32. After that I was happy to leave the next step of IVF until this year and to keep ttc naturally. Now we are ready to face into IVF. What I want to know is how many days off will I need, I’m a secondary school teacher and not sure whether to leave it until June to start the process when I’m off anyway. Will I need weeks off or will it only be a day or two? I’d rather not wait that long. Luckily, I’m rarely sick and so I never need to take time off, I don’t want to face awkward questions about medical appointments if it can be avoided. I’m hopeful this year will be the year for us. I can’t believe we are we three years at this. Please God it’ll happen soon.
I went through 6 cycles of IVF and the only day off for me was on egg retrieval, so I think this will not really be an issue, hopefully you will respond very well to stimulation and so even if you had to do more than one cycle, you can use the frozen embryos. Most people have no known causes for their ectopics but it is well known that if you have had an ectopic, the chance of it happening again are higher (about 10%). During a laparoscopy, the surgeon cannot see how the tubes are, in fact there is no test that tells you for sure that the tubes are working well, at best they can tell you if they are open or not. Even the tubes are open, this is no reassurance that they are functioning. I had had my tubes checked before starting IVF and I still had 2 ectopics following IVF... Do keep us posted, we are here, and I wish you all the luck in the world as you start on this new path!
