Hi Mod2! I didn't really test too early as I had a blast transferred (5 days embryo) so 9 days is pretty much on the day I would have gotten my period! So on the symptoms, I didn't pay any attention at all this last time. i had symptoms when I was pregnant with the ectopics, I had symptoms when I wasn't pregnant, so I go tired of wrecking my head!!! This last time I had absolutely no clue, no feeling for it to be positive or negative at all! Keeping everything crossed my friend!
mhhh. that is interesting re testing. mine was a blast too. so you think I should get an accurate result already? I'm day 12 after transfer. they told me to test day 14. You are right re symptoms, I only really had the extreme tiredness on the first ectopic, nothing really on the other 2.
Oh yes I remember now you had a blast transfer too! not sure why i thought they had frozen day3 embryos, I must have got confused! Generally clinics tell you to test 12 days after a day 5 transfer so 14 is definitely on the long side. You would definitely get a real result if you test now, but don't do it if you don't feel like it. I do hope this time your clinic will calculate your dates right though it didn't make any sense what they had told you the last time, currently you are 4w3d ;D and I'm so so hoping my friend!!
well, that's food for thought anyway. I will think about it and then decide. I asked the doc at the review what way they calculate pregnancy with IVF and he said the same as normal - from the first day of your last period, so that would make me 4 weeks today, IF I am pregnant. There seems to be different info out there, though!
Hi Mod2, sorry to be making this point but your doctor is the only one I have heard of counting this way when we are talking IVF. You can check any website of any fertility clinics here or in the States and you'll see that this is quite incorrect. Even in a normal pregnancy the staging of it may be in doubt when the only info you have is the date of the last period, this is why they do a scan in the first trimester to give you accurate dates. In IVF it is known exactly what stage the pregnancy is at as the embryo was formed in the lab at a specific time. That corresponds to the retrieval date to which you add 2 weeks to calculate in a fake manner the day of your last period to make it "comparable" to a natural pregnancy.
Otherwise a 5day blastocyst transferred to different women who took different length of time to be ready for transfer would generate pregnancies which are dated differently according to your clinic which is scientifically unsound as the embryo will be at the exact stage of development in all cases.
This is also very important when you monitor the progress of the pregnancy. While in a natural pregnancy the dimension of the baby can appear to be at a different gestational age (ovulation could have occurred at different time than expected) if this is the case with an IVF pregnancy than it has to be taken that the baby is measuring small/big for its gestational age rather than having wrong dates. Of course there is a certain degree of tolerance in all pregnancies, generally plus or minus 3 days. For this very same reason, it is highly unlikely that an IVF pregnancy is let go much beyond the due date (my OB will induce/C-sec max 6 days post due date) as the placenta may turn very quickly and there is no point in risking this given that the gestational age of the baby is known (independently of the fact that he/she may be big or small).
thx for that, I still don't get how you'd get 4w3d though??? transfer was on the 17th, the embryo was 5 days old. To be honest, I'm not too concerned about all this, you probably can't understand that, being so scientific and all that :-) Once I get my test result I will insist on a blood test either way, if it's positive then every 48 hours plus scan as soon as possible (if they have a problem I'll just go to the EPU, I know they won't have a problem!), and if it's negative just to make sure there is really nothing going on.
aaah now it all makes sense, thanks. had a dream that we were back in the clinic for another transfer and I said to the doc "well, third time lucky hopefully". and now I got myself convinced it's going to be a BFN! God I hope I'm wrong!
I think I'm gonna put myself out of my misery and test tonight when I get home. Get it over with. I know testing in the evenings is not ideal, but I can't face testing in the morning when I have to go to work afterwards!
I think it should be safe enough to test in the evening now in any case (it's not early, I am confident you should see a second line!), oh God I'm so so hoping for you my friend, if you feel like it let me know, but no worries if not. Keeping everything crossed.
thanks a mill, I don't know what I'd do without you lot! I'm wishing the hours away here so I can get home. I'm trying not to drink too much this afternoon, too. I really don't know what to think anymore, I just want to know now.
thx sunflower. how are you doing yourself? Now I'm only after getting my hopes up again, I spent all day in work trying to change a Saturday delivery to a Friday delivery, and when I had it done I realised I'd been looking at at the wrong month and actually changed a Monday delivery to a Sunday delivery! First thing my colleague said was "baby brain?" oh I don't know. Roll on 5pm so I can get home and get it over with.
