hi i had first ectopic 8 weeks ago with removal of my right tube i just found out this morning im pregnant again 3 weeks and 5 days by my calculatins . so did what was told to do rang my doc - who is on holidays but got talking to practice nurse who told me to come in on monday for first check up and they will refer me to EPU at 6 weeks im not happy at all on discharge i was told my bloods etc would be monitored closely from the start but she said that wont make any difference as bloods wont show signs of ectopic this early she said she will ring the consultant and see what he suggests i was just 5 weeks when things started to go wring last time and left waiting for ten days until it was too late i dont have that luxury this time only one tube left so frustrating how they can change their mind and tell me to wait but if i wait it might be too late what should i do any one any suggestions
Hi, you absolutely can monitor your HCG levels and doing it early is the best way to see how they behave. You have to do them every 48 hours, so go in tomorrow to your gp, get bloods done and go in again on monday (it'll be 4 days, it's the best you can do with the weekend in the middle) and possibly again on wednesday. Pretend they tell you the value, do not accept "looks good" as an answer. The nurse obviously is not too informed about ectopic pregnancies, just show her you know more, sure at times HCG may behave like a normal pregnancy, but more often it's low and it increases erratically. you can tell them you got this information from EPI and see if it works. You can give us a call on the phone or post here your results. Also, based on your HCG, you can see if you can be seen earlier in the EPU, at about 5 weeks a gestational sac is visible in the uterus. They will be very reluctant to do this and if you are not certain about the dates (you may know it, but implantation could have happened later than normal, most natural pregnancies are a few days off one way or the other) it may be just that little too soon. I completely understand the anxiety of going past 6 weeks to be checked, bloods will be your best indicators, if they look good you should be very optimistic all is well. Please keep us posted.
thanks mod 1 its very frustrating i even rang the EPU they wont see me until 6 weeks either so just rang the consultants private clinic and got talking to his lovely midwife who will see me monday and wednesday for bloods and scan me next friday - it will mean going private and spending bit more money but will be worth it for the peace of mind and extra care during my pregnancy please god . will keep you up dated thanks
At least you will be seen soon which is fantastic, of course very frustrating you have to go private, your gp should have done the bloods I would let her/him know that this is quite unhelpful when he/she comes back from holidays. Keep us posted I have a good feeling!
scan went really good straight away on just a normal abdo scan we could see little sac the midwife was so lovely made us both feel such at ease and confident we have made the right decision to go private all the way she is going to scan me every week until im happy things are ok and im feeling more reassured "cos she can " she said - she asked me about the epu aswell and i told her the story she thinks its a disgrace aswell is there any way of getting places to change policy- by what iv been reading some women have had good experiences second time around but the most you have to fight or pay for what you should be getting its just not right
mrsmc this is great!! And yes, like mocksy said we are trying to raise awareness, I think some progress has been made already, a while back they would not have offered an appointment before 7 weeks! So 6 weeks is progress, but still... I am glad you found someone that will follow you so closely, the first few weeks are just so hard, I am sure all will be well and at least you know the first hurdle is behind you!
